The Scottish Ambulance Service urges public to become lifesavers at Restart a Heart Live
The Scottish Ambulance Service is urging the public to become lifesavers by signing up for a free 20-minute event on Wednesday 1 October.
The Restart a Heart Live event is online, inclusive CPR and defibrillator training that anyone can attend, and no equipment is required. There will be sessions tailored for primary and secondary school children in the morning and sessions for the wider public in the afternoon and early evening.
Hosted by the Scottish Ambulance Service, in partnership with Save a Life for Scotland, Save a Life Cymru, Resuscitation Council UK, and the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives, the event last year smashed a Guinness World Record with over 5,000 members of the public tuning in. This year the hosts are taking the event nationwide and are hoping to build on the number of people learning lifesaving skills.
Lee Myers, SAS Paramedic Clinical Team Leader, said: “Almost 4,000 people in Scotland have an out of hospital cardiac arrest every year. If that person doesn’t receive CPR, the likelihood of them surviving drops by 10% for every minute CPR isn’t administered. We want to empower the public to be confident in their CPR skills and help build a nation of lifesavers.
“Through Restart a Heart Live, we are aiming to train one million people in the UK in how to do hands only CPR and how to use a defibrillator by 2027. So, join us on Wednesday 1st October to support your community and become one of a million lifesavers.”
