Trophy launched to honour Still Game actor and Paramedic

A memorial trophy to honour former Still Game Actor and Scottish Ambulance Service paramedic Stevie Allen has been launched in the Borders.

Stevie, who worked as a Paramedic at Hawick Ambulance Station for nine years, passed away this year in March. He played 'Manky Frankie' in the Scottish sitcom, alongside other roles in Shakespeare's Macbeth and TV series Tinseltown.

Following his passing, his colleagues at Hawick, started the Stevie Allen memorial trophy, to be awarded to the Student of the Year.

Local staff from across the Borders voted with three shortlisted finalists chosen. Jacques Kerr, his partner, recently visited Hawick to launch the award and thank staff for their support. The winner was Dawn Scott, who was unable to attend but was later presented with the trophy by Lee Myers, Paramedic Clinical Team Leader at Hawick.

Jacques said: “It is my honour to present this trophy in memory of Stevie, who loved mentoring students and was a passionate paramedic.”

Mark Borthwick, Acting Area Service Manager Borders, said: “Stevie was an extremely valued member of Hawick station and his passing was heartbreaking. The memorial trophy is a lovely way to remember him, and also for our students to learn about his passion for the role and what difference he made to the community and staff. We were honoured to welcome Jacques to the station and congratulate all the finalists.”

Stevie joined the Service in 2006 as a Trainee Ambulance Technician at Edinburgh North Station. He then moved to Edinburgh South station later on that year. In 2011 he became a Paramedic at Edinburgh City Station and moved to Hawick in 2014.
